Marie Antoinette is known today as the last queen of France before the French Revolution toppled the French monarchy in the late 1700s. She has also been associated with a lifestyle of decadence and excess that prompted revolutionaries of the time to call her Madame Deficit. France's financial crisis at the time was blamed on Antoinette's lavish spending and she was swiftly convicted during her trial for high treason and executed by the infamous guillotine.
