An absolute monarchy is a form of government where one person—usually a king or queen—has complete control over the government and its people. The monarch’s word is law.
There are no checks and balances from a parliament or constitution, and the monarch doesn’t have to answer to the people.
Let’s look back at history.
Take France under King Louis XIV, for instance. Ruling from 1643 to 1715, Louis XIV is perhaps the most famous absolute monarch. He centralized power by weakening the nobility and controlling the economy, religion, and culture.
Not as some might make you think: making friends with elite and exploiting the weak.
You might have heard his famous declaration, “I am the state.” With this, he meant that all government power rested in his hands.
