MM Video: Frederick the Great

Ultimately, with his aggrandisement of Prussia, he was responsible for the destruction of the Old Order.

From The Mad Monarchist (31 January 2012)

Frederick the Great, King Friedrich II of Prussia, was the son of King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia, the House of Hohenzollern, and is ranked among the "Enlightened Despots" of his time due to his liberal domestic policies combined with royal absolutism. However, Frederick the Great is probably best remembered as the greatest Prussian warrior-king in German history. With the British as his only major allies he was at war with almost all the major powers of continental Europe for a time including France, Austria and Russia. He used swift movements, surprise attacks and brilliant tactical maneuvers to defeat vastly superior enemy forces, earning him an honored place in German history. He modernized his country, was religiously tolerant and a patron of the arts, especially music. He was married to Elisabeth-Christine of Brunswick-Bevern but had no children. He died in Potsdam in 1786.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
