The Raccolta

Since I've finished sharing the Explanation of the Prayers and Ceremonies of Holy Mass, by Dom. Prosper Guéranger, starting tomorrow, I will be sharing the Raccolta as it existed during the Pontificate of Bld Pius IX in 1857.  

For those unfamiliar with the Raccolta, the Servant of God John Hardon, SJ, defines it in his Modern Catholic Dictionary as:

Formerly a book containing the prayers and exercises to which indulgences were attached by the Holy See; the conditions for gaining these indulgences; and their application to the souls in purgatory. Translations of the official edition of the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences were authorized for national and local use. Since the Second Vatican Council, the Raccolta has become the Enchiridion of Indulgences, authorized by Pope Paul VI in 1968.

Whilst it is true that the indulgences granted in the Raccolta have been superseded under the terms of the Apostolic Constitution Indulgentiarum doctrina of 1 January 1967, issued by Pope Paul VI, and by the resultant Enchiridion of Indulgences, the Raccolta remains a veritable treasure trove of prayers.

And, it would seem that any of them would qualify for a partial indulgence under the first 'general grant' of the new Enchiridion, to wit:

A partial indulgence is granted to that individual among the faithful who, in carrying out his duties and bearing with the trials of life, raises his mind in humble trust to God, adding—even mentally—some pious invocation.

 As I share it, I'm sure you will find beloved old prayers as well as ones you've never seen.
