Nostra Aetate

In Nostra Aetate, the Declaration On the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions, the Second Vatican Council states:

3. The Church regards with esteem also the Muslims. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself...

Do they worship the same God we do?  A personal anecdote.

I once had a Muslim friend ask me what Christians believe.  He was a Saudi, but his grandfather had been from Nigeria, made the haj, and stayed in Saudi Arabia. I could think of nothing better than reciting the Nicene Creed.

When I got to 'I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made', if he had been capable of turning white, he would have.

He said, 'Surely not all Christians believe that?'. I explained that whilst it's true that many modernists and liberals no longer do, it had been the belief of all Christians for around the first 1800 years.

We were good friends, but I have absolutely no doubt that had we been in Saudi Arabia, friendship would not have prevented him from calling the religious police and I would have been executed for blasphemy.

To a devout Muslim, we are Tritheists, worshippers of three gods. The idea that God is Triune, Three Persons in One God, is utter blasphemy to them. There's absolutely no doubt in their minds that they do NOT worship the same God we do, despite what the numpties at VII said,

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
