Eastern Rite - Romanian Greek Catholic Church

Today is the Feasts of the Venerable Peter of Egypt, disciple of Abba Lot, Saint Marciana the Queen, wife of Emperor Justin I (518-527), interred in the Church of the Holy Apostles, the Imperial Cemetery in Constantinople, and of Saint Elias II, Patriarch of Jerusalem

The Romanian Greek Catholic Church or Romanian Church United with Rome, Greek-Catholic (Latin: Ecclesiae Graecae Catholico Romaniae; Romanian: Biserica Română Unită cu Roma, Greco-Catolică), sometimes called, in reference to its Byzantine Rite, the Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church is a sui iuris Eastern Catholic Church, in full union with the Roman Catholic Church. It has the rank of a Major Archiepiscopal Church and it uses the Byzantine liturgical rite in the Romanian language. In a vain effort to placate the Orthodox, it is part of the Major Archiepiscopal Churches of the Catholic Church that are not distinguished with the Patriarchal dignity they deserve.

It is divided into one Province of five Eparchies and one Eparchy subject directly to the Holy See:

Ecclesiastical Province of Fagaras and Alba Iulia

  • Romanian Catholic Archeparchy of Fagaraș and Alba Iulia, with the Archbishop and 195 Priests (192 Diocesan, 3 Religious) serving 581 Parishes and 202,000 Catholics.
  • Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Oradea Mare, with the Bishop and 191 Priests (178 Diocesan, 13 ReligioUs) serving 152 Parishes and 81,000 Catholics.
  • Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Cluj-Gherla, with the Bishop and 170 Priests (158 Diocesan, 12 Religious) serving 164 Parishes and just over 42,000 Catholics.
  • Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Lugoj, with the Bishop, an Auxiliary Bishop, and 128 Priests (124 Diocesan, 4 Religious) serving 149 Parishes and 99,000 Catholics.
  • Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Maramureș, with its Bishop and 150 Priests (144 Diocesan, 6 Religious) serving 167 Parishes and 52,500 Catholics.
  • Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Saint Basil the Great of Bucharest, with its Bishop and 16 Priests (14 Diocesan, 2 Religious) serving 14 Parishes and 10,000 Catholics.
Immediately subject to the Holy See
  • Romanian Catholic Eparchy of St George's in Canton (OH), with its Bishop and 33 Priests (30 Diocesan, 3 Religious) serving 14 Parishes and 6,200 Catholics.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
