The Feast of St Moses

Yes, that Moses! The Martyrology for today says, 'The death of the holy Law-giver and Prophet Moses, upon Mount Nebo, in the land of Moab.'

There is only one Feast Day in the General Calendar of the Roman Church that commemorates Old Testament Saints and that is the Feast of the Holy Machabees on 1 August, but there ARE other Old Testament Saints commemorated in certain places or Orders. For example, the Orders of Carmel, both O.Carm and O.C.D., keep St Elias on 20 July and St Eliseus on 14 June, as Founders of the Order.

There are other Saints named Moses as well. St Moses the Black , (Feast Day, 28 August) and St Moses, Bishop of the Arabs (Feast Day, 7 February) come to mind. It is still a common name amongst Eastern monastics, as well. In fact, I have a Facebook friend, named Moses, who is a Hierodeacon at Holy Resurrection Monastery under th Romanian Greek Catholic Eparchy of St George.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
