Prevent the Calgary City Council From Banning Preaching and Therapy Against Homosexuality

The bylaw is coming up for a vote on Monday, 25 May.

The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms reads:
Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognise the supremacy of God and the rule of law:
2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:

(a) freedom of conscience and religion;
(b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;
(c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and
(d) freedom of association.
Seems to me that this bylaw is ultra vires because it violates the Charter by contravening at least a) and b), if not also d).

Please sign the petition.

The Calgary City Council has announced a bylaw that will ban preaching and teaching against homosexuality from the Bible or Koran. This will affect therapists, Imams, pastors, as well as mosque and church congregations. It includes a $10,000 fine and up to 5 years jail time. This a flagrant disregard for religious rights. Let's stop this from happening.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Leo XIV as the Vicar of Christ, the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
