Does particular justice comprise several species?
Yes, it comprises two species: distributive justice and
commutative justice (LXI. 1).
What is distributive justice?
It is that species of particular justice which safeguards
fairness in the relations that exist between the society
and the individuals of which the society is composed
(LXI. 1).
What is commutative justice?
It is that species of particular justice which safeguards
fairness in the relations of men with each other in the
same society (ibid.).
If one considers the individual members of a society as parts
ordained to the whole, what kind of justice safeguards fairness between
the individuals and the society?
This is the great virtue called legal justice (LXI. 1, Obj. 4).
