In the last year a double threat to the rights of God and and attack on the most vulnerable in Society has issued forth from the anti-Christian forces in New Zealand. Bills allowing assisted suicide and near-unrestricted abortion have been presented before Parliament. Such an attack demands action and a response from Catholics.
Proper Catholic Action
While political action is needed, and many pro-life groups are doing the great work of this political protest and lobbying, the great spiritual authors like are clear: active work is only as good as the spiritual work that stands behind it. Dom Chautaurd in his Soul of the Apostolate puts it thus :
Listen to St. John of the Cross: 'Let the men eaten up with activity,' he says, 'and who imagine thev are able to shake the world with their preaching and other outward works, stop and reflect a moment. It will not be difficult for them to understand that they would be much more useful to the Church and more pleasing to the Lord, not to mention the good example they would give to those around them, if they devoted more time to prayer and to the exer- cises of the interior life. 'Under these conditions, by one single work of theirs they would do far more good, and with much less trouble, than they do by a thousand others on which they exhaust their lives. Prayer would merit them this grace, and would obtain for them the spiritual energies they need to bring forth such fruits. But without prayer, all they do amounts to nothing more than noise and uproar; it is like a hammer banging on an anvil and echoing all over the neigh- borhood. They accomplish a little more than nothing, sometimes absolutely nothing at all, and sometimes downright evil. God save us from such a soul as this, if it should happen to swell up with pride! It would be vain for appearances to be in his favor: the truth is that he would be doing nothing, because no good work can be done without the power of God.
And Our Blessed Lord reminds the Apostles that for certain devils a mere exorcism is not enough and "there is no way of casting out such spirits as this except by prayer and fasting." (Mt. 17:20)
Time to get serious
In addition to the political actions which lay groups will organize, and whatever personal acts of prayer and sacrifice are organized locally, the Society of St Pius X wishes to make a profession of Faith and calls Catholics to join in a Crusade for Life. Armed with one of the greatest and most accessible spritual weapons—the Rosary—we will Crusade for Life, and invites Catholics throughout New Zealand and the world to band together in a spiritual army to fight this evil.
This Crusade sets out under the ægis of the Blessed Virgin on the Feast of her Immaculate Heart in the traditional calendar (22 August, 2019) and will run through the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary (8 December, 2019). We will tally up the Rosaries pledged and offered, along with acts of sacrifices offered during this period and present them as a gift to the Blessed Virgin as a means of drawing down the grace necessary to protect the most innocent.
While we trust in the help of the Blessed Virgin, no matter the outcome, these Rosaries and Sacrifices will gladden the heart of the Mother of God, and bring down graces sorely needed.
There is great hope, however, in placing trust in the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our Lord Jesus Christ began is mission Incarnate in Her most holy womb because of her "Fiat" (Lk 1:38). He began his public ministry at Her behest (Jn. 2:1-12). Holy Scripture tells us that the Blessed Virgin Mary is she who "cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, fearsome as an army set in array?" (Cant. 6:10). Popes have called the Blessed Virgin the "vanquisher of all heresies" (Pope St Pius X, Pascendi dominici gregis). With recourse to Mary, especially through Her Rosary, there is great hope of victory.
The Blessed Virgin herself said at Fatima, that Jesus wishes to establish in the world the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and so we begin this Crusade on that Feast. The Immaculate Virgin was preserved from original sin from the very moment of Her conception, celebrated 8 December, so we end on this day.

Comments are subject to deletion if they are not germane. I have no problem with a bit of colourful language, but blasphemy or depraved profanity will not be allowed. Attacks on the Catholic Faith will not be tolerated. Comments will be deleted that are republican (Yanks! Note the lower case 'r'!), attacks on the legitimacy of Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ (I know he's a material heretic and a Protector of Perverts, and I definitely want him gone yesterday! However, he is Pope, and I pray for him every day.), the legitimacy of the House of Windsor or of the claims of the Elder Line of the House of France, or attacks on the legitimacy of any of the currently ruling Houses of Europe.
