True it's good news in one way, but in my opinion 36% is much to high. That means that over one out of three Catholics doesn't really understand why we go to Mass!

From the August 19 - 25 issue of Our Sunday Visitor (Volume 107, #17, p. 3):
According to a poll by Pew Research, of Christian Americans who regularly attend church, 71% of Protestants said "I find the sermons valuable" as a "very important" reason to attend.
When it came to Catholics, only 36% gave that answer.
That is good news!
As a "cradle" Catholic, I was raised to believe (as I am sure most of you other Fishies were, both cradle and convert) that we go to Church for the Sacraments-- and especially the pinnacle and ultimate purpose of Holy Mass, the union with our Lord Jesus through the consumption of His Body and Blood --and not because we want to be entertained by the priest.
This has long been a pet peeve of mine, when I hear of people leaving the Church because they find the priest(s) boring or "they don't get anything out of it".
While a priest animated by the Faith, who gives resounding homilies, is great, the focus of Mass is never supposed to be about the priest or his personality, but about Jesus and His Sacrifice.
If the Mass one is attending is a valid Mass, then, really, there is no such thing as a bad Mass, regardless if the priest is dull.
If this poll is accurate, then most Catholics who regularly attend Mass at least got that from their catechesis, if nothing else.
Just a bit of good news I wanted to share, in the midst of all this darkness we are experiencing right now.
